Shopping malls in Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the best shopping cities in Europe, so when visiting, you should consider visiting one of the many malls. These malls offer everything from budget-friendly stores to luxury brands. In the evening, after a day of shopping, you can also visit one of the many restaurants to try some great food.

There are many malls to choose from, and some are quite different from others. That's why we've compiled a list of all our favourites, from malls perfect for going to with your kids to malls perfect for a fun date.

1. Las Arenas de Barcelona

This building dates back to 1900; looking at it from the outside, you wouldn't necessarily guess there is a big shopping mall inside. This is because it was a bullfighting arena until 1977, which also explains the mall's name. After the arena closed, it was used for multiple projects, but finally, in 2011, the mall was opened here.

This mall has over 100 stores, including big brands like Calzedonia, Desigual, Barça Store, and Mango. At the top of the arena, you can also find many restaurants like La Tagliatella, la Lola, Tapa Gaudí, and Udon.

All in all, it's really a great mall to visit, certainly also because of it's central location, right at Plaça d'Espanya.

2. Diagonal Mar

Diagonal Mar is one of the biggest malls in the city and offers more than most. You'll generally find many known clothing brands like Primark, Bershka, Lefties, and Zara. But aside from that, you'll also be able to find other stores here. They have a big supermarket (Al Campo) and also some fun stores to walk around in, like Flying Tiger, Decathlon, and many more.

Aside from this, Diagonal Mar also offers some options that are perfect for going with your children or even on a date. They have a cinema with some English movies and a big arcade with many fun things to do.

In addition to all these shopping and leisure options, they also have some great restaurants, from dining out a bit more fancy to well-known fast-food restaurants.

3. Maremagnum

This unique mall is located in Barcelona's old port, Port Vell. Not only is the location unique, but it's also the only mall in the city allowed to stay open 365 days a year.

Inside the building, you can find stores with many different items, such as clothes, shoes, jewellery, homeware, toys, and more. They also have many restaurants inside and outside the building. We recommend dining outside at Tapa Tapa, where you'll enjoy a beautiful sea view.

After visiting the mall, there are plenty of other nearby places, like the aquarium, the Columbus monument, and the Golindrinas boats.

4. Westfield La Maquinista

This mall might be located a bit out of the centre, but it makes up for it with all it offers. In our opinion, this is the most complete shopping mall, so it is certainly a place you want to visit for shopping, dining out, or doing a fun activity.

Westfield La Maquinista is the biggest mall in Barcelona and the whole region of Catalonia. It has 150+ stores, with big brands like Apple, Urban Outfitters, Hollister, and Crocs all located on the first two floors.

Walking around the mall is nice, with its open-air walkways. It's almost like walking outside, but unlike most streets, it's filled with great stores everywhere.

One of the best things about this mall is the more than 50 different restaurants on the top floor, from fast food to luxury restaurants. It's a perfect place to go after a day of shopping, and we would highly recommend you to try out the food here.
